Details are still coming in, but so far 12 people are dead and 31 others are injured in today’s bloody attack at the Fort Hood Army base in Texas.

According to ABC news, one shooter, Major Malik Nadal Hasan, was killed while another two suspects are in custody.  Motives, and the names of the two men who were captured have not been released.  Counter terrorism units say that they have “no word” on whether or not this was a terrorist attack.

According to reports, ”more than one shooter” opened fire in the Soldiers Readiness Processing Center and the Howze Theatre, both of which are located on the base.

The Howze Theatre was scheduled to hold college commencement ceremonies for soldiers who, due to their deployments, had missed their graduations, while the Readiness Center is where soldiers who are about to deploy get last minute medical clearances.  There has been no information released about the victims or the severity of injuries, although the latter are said to vary widely.

The Army is currently heading up the investigation, while FBI agents are inbound from Waco.

President Obama, who was speaking at a conference for Native American issues, thanked conference organizers and his cabinet,  gave “a shout out” to “Dr. Joe Medicine Crow,”  promised Native Americans that he was paying attention to their issues, and then addressed the shootings.
