In Florida this weekend, 1,131 drivers were stopped in DUI checkpoints. 10 were arrested, over 100 were given tickets, but not one DUI was recorded.
According to the Gainsville Sun, the “papers please” method of policework resulted in:
- Two arrests for outstanding warrants
- Seven arrests for felony charges, including 6 drug offenses
- One misdemeanor drug arrest
- 104 traffic citations issued
- 10 faulty equipment warnings
- 10 miscellaneous warnings
- Not one arrest of a driver under the influence
So remember, next time you’re pulled over at a DUI checkpoint, they’re not really interested in whether you’ve been drinking, they’re just rounding everyone up to see what they can charge you with. They’ve got to meet those quota’s somehow.
